The Tech Behind the Chaheati

We’ve received a few questions about the technology we’ve used in the Chaheati heated chair and the rechargeable battery pack. While a lot of the tech behind it is patent-pending, we wanted to address the questions as best we could without giving away too much information or making it overly technical.

When we went through the long process of designing the Chaheati, much of our inspiration was drawn from the companies manufacturing some of the best high-end extreme sports equipment. We chose these types of companies for inspiration because of our vision of creating a comfortable yet durable all-season heated camp chair. Those same manufacturers know that weather extremes put outdoor gear to the test just as much as a user’s wear and tear on it. Cold and heat cause expansion and contraction of materials, while water and fire can corrode or damage in different ways. Not only do the structural components of a chair need to stand up to these weather elements; electronics do as well.

The tubing used for the chair structure is 19-gauge, which is preferred for more rigorous outdoor use. The fabric we decided to use is meant to protect the ultra-thin heating elements embedded in it from adverse conditions and to also stand up to physical abuse. The “600D” we reference in the features of the Chaheati fabric is simply a measure of the durability of the fabric. A 600D polyester fabric is tougher than a 420D fabric. This fabric — combined with the 19-guage tubing — can hold some serious weight! We’ve rated the chair to safely seat up to 280 pounds.

The battery and heating element represent the other side of the Chaheati’s tech. When thinking about ways to heat the chair, we didn’t want a bulky heating coil or some other obtrusive design. Comfort was just as much a priority as functionality during its design. We decided to go with a unique ultra-thin carbon fiber (non-wire) based heating system. The fabric is strong but flexible to accommodate the wide variety of body types it encounters, and is of low-voltage design to maximize their longevity.

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery we chose had to provide long-term heat and to have a rapid recharge rate. With a constant stream of research and investment into lithium-ion technology, it made perfect sense to adopt it for Chaheati. We also wanted it to be extremely safe so we incorporated a digital circuit breaker into the battery unit. The battery is integrated into the small hand-held temperature controller, which features four convenient temperature settings.

All of this tech combines to make the Chaheati heated camp chair what it is: a durable, all-season camp chair made to withstand a variety of climates and conditions. It keeps you warm on those cold outdoor evenings and comfortable all year round. We’re proud of the design, and we hope you will be too.

Finding the Right Tailgating Supplies

We’ve been doing a fair share of tailgating lately, talking football and spreading the word about the Chaheati heated camp chair. As we’ve moved from one event to the next, we’ve noticed that some people take their tailgating seriously. We’ve seen everything from Rams-branded barbecue utensils to beer belts that hold six cans. “Wow!” we think. “Where do people find this stuff?” There’s obviously a market for tailgating accessories, so we started looking around at who’s supplying.

Our first stop is TailgatingFanatic.com, a company based in Georgia. The folks at Tailgating Fanatic have been working tirelessly to bring the best tailgating experience to folks for years, understanding that tailgating is a lifestyle for many people. The company even encourages its customers to send in photos of their tailgating events to both gain a better understanding of what tailgaters use and to “maintain a personable relationship” with their customers.

Their site is relatively easy to use, though how the shopping cart functions seems a bit strange. When you add an item to your cart, a PayPal page is automatically opened. You do have the option to choose to continue shopping, which automatically closes the window. There’s also an issue with their FAQ not loading properly on the site. However, the selection is rather impressive as it’s not limited to only branded items. For example, a search for St. Louis Cardinals gear yields the predictable branded glasses and banners. But that same search also yields a wide variety of portable grills, lights, and collapsible tables — all things that are quite useful at a tailgate event.

FansEdge.com is another popular destination for folks looking for licensed sports products. These folks have been around for over ten years, with stores in many parts of the U.S. The company appears to have a strong focus on service at its core, providing a wide variety of goods for sports fans. They have a “Tailgating, Outdoors & Automotive” section for numerous professional sports, including non-team sports like golf, boxing, and tennis. A search of St. Louis Blues tailgating gear included flags, banners, koozies, and mats. We were slightly disappointed that they didn’t have as impressive a selection as Tailgating Fanatic, but FansEdge still offers a lot of options.

Finally, we can’t forget about another great tailgating item: the Chaheati heated camp chair. The fall and winter sports of football, hockey, and soccer all bring tailgaters outdoors despite cold temperatures. Wouldn’t it be nice to celebrate your team from the comfort of a heated chair? Our comfortable and durable Chaheati chair is easy to operate: simply plug in the slim battery pack and select a temperature. Within 20 seconds you’ll have a warm chair to kick back and talk sports in. Take a look at the features of our chair and discover how it makes the perfect tailgating accessory!

Chaheati Tailgates in Style

The art of the tailgate party has shifted over the years, but the idea remains the same: to kick back and have some fun before or during a sporting event. And while the tailgate of a vehicle remains a fine place to set your beverage or your bum, there are probably better options for sitting. With fall exiting out and winter poking its nose in, those tailgates get a little colder. Breaking out your Chaheati heated camp chair sounds like the perfect idea!

We’ve been taking Chaheati to the Coors Light Rams pre-game tailgates here in St. Louis the entire fall. Warm days and cold, we’ve been having a lot of fun talking food, football, and Chaheati with fellow tailgaters. When asked about our chair, we always tell folks that the idea for the chair came about on a cold winter day, much like the ones that occur during late-season football. We had the realization that sitting outside in the cold discussing whether the passing game is better than the running game doesn’t have to be an uncomfortable experience. The Chaheati was born from this concept. It doesn’t matter if it’s a winter tailgate party or a summer camping trip: a durable, waterproof camp chair is great to have any time of year. And when it gets cold, simply turn up the heat!

Folks at the tailgates have really warmed up to the idea of a heated camp chair. (Pun intended!) Many tell us that they like the convenience of having four different temperature settings on the Chaheati. And since the heating is woven into the fabric, tailgaters seem to rarely notice that there’s something special about it… until they sit down. Then their eyes light up with surprise.
Want to be surprised too? You can find us at the corner of Cole St. and Broadway in St. Louis on November 21, December 19, and December 26. We’ll be there about three hours before the Rams play, debating the playbook and staying warm with Chaheati. Stop by and we’ll tell you more about our durable and versatile heated camp chair, great for all occasions. Go Rams!

Chaheati: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Ahh, the holidays are upon us again. If you’re like us, buying just the right holiday gifts for the people close to you gets more difficult each year. Do you go with the red tie or the blue tie for grandpa? Oh, that’s right: he doesn’t wear ties anymore. You brother probably threw away that robot-shaped fruitcake you bought him last year, and your mother is still trying to figure out that Swiss Army spatula set you gave her.

And then it dawns on us that the perfect gift is one that is 1. useable year after year, all year round, 2. built to last, and 3. easy to use. (No, a rock doesn’t count.) That’s where the Chaheati heated camp chair comes in! It easily fits this set of criteria and then some.

The Chaheati has hundreds of uses. Take it with you on your float tip. Stick it in your hunting blind. Set a few up at your next tailgate party. Sit in comfort at your child’s soccer match. The Chaheati heated camp chair is useable all year long, regardless of the weather. Plug in the rechargeable battery for up to six hours of heated comfort when it’s cold. For those warm days, simply leave the battery unplugged from the chair. And don’t worry about getting water on the chair: the fabric and tubing is designed to resist water intrusion.

And of course the Chaheati is built to last. When we designed it, we thought of as many possible uses the chair would have. We then decided that taking cues from other extreme outdoor sports companies was in order. The structure of the chair is meant to be weight-tolerant, supporting most any body type. The fabric is water-resistant and durable to protect the ultra-thin heating elements woven into it.

Chaheati is also easy to use. Like many other camp chairs, it quickly unfolds and collapses with very little effort. There isn’t a complex heating setup that you have to learn about either. Just plug in the battery pack and choose from one of the four convenient heat settings. In less than 20 seconds your chair will be heated and ready for action.

Usability, durability, and ease of use all make the Chaheati heated camp chair a fantastic gift for most any outdoor enthusiast. We’re sure that they’ll fall in love with this camp chair. Chaheati will be the gift that keeps on giving, year after year.

The Thrill of the Hunt with Chaheati

Fall is here (with winter chasing quickly), and hunters everywhere are heading out to the forests and fields to hunt. Whether it’s hunting turkey, deer, or duck, the crisp air brings people out to hunt year after year. But that same crisp air can bite, especially in winter. Just ask any experienced hunter: they’ll tell you that staying warm and comfortable is important.

An experienced hunter is sure to have a checklist of “must have” items for their winter hunting trip. Durable and warm boots? Check! Insulated coveralls? Check! A good pair of gloves? Check! A Chaheati heated camp chair? But of course!

But why does the Chaheati make the perfect hunting companion? For one, it won’t start up a loud, annoying conversation when the animal you’re hunting is close by. What it will do, however, is keep your back and bottom warm, allowing you to focus on the hunt and not the cold. Just place it in your hunting blind or other suitable location and wait no more than 20 seconds for a warm sitting place. The Chaheati heated camp chair also comes in a black and camo pattern for a more hunting-friendly look.

Many hunters also utilize a more primitive hunting camp during their hunting trips. These campsites are perfect for the Chaheati-toting hunter. Whether it’s out by the campfire or inside a cabin, you can count on your Chaheati to keep you warm and comfortable for hours. Keep a spare battery charging in your vehicle to get even more mileage out of your chair the next day.
But the Chaheati isn’t limited to just cold-weather hunts; it’s an “all season” chair. The chair is specifically designed to be weather resistant. Hot or cold, rain or shine, it’s a great addition to any hunt or outdoor activity. And you don’t have to worry about removing cumbersome heating coils or the like. The non-obtrusive, ultra-thin heating elements of the Chaheati are woven into the fabric already.

So whether you’re hunting for game in winter or hunting for relaxation in the summer, make Chaheati your companion. You’ll find that it has a warm personality.

The Shipping Adventures of the Heated Outdoor Chair

Today, I want to focus on LOGISTICS! Wow, I have to thank my wonderful Husband for his persistence and patience in dealing with the shipping/logistics of getting our heated chairs here in Illinois. From our Manufacturing blog, we have two manufacturing facilities. One is in Ningbo, China and the other is in Kaiping, Guangdong. The all-season heated chair assembly is in Ningbo and the powerpacks and chargers for the chair’s heating system are in Kaiping.

The first action you should take when dealing with international shipping is find a trusted Freight Forwarder. This person is responsible, as a 3rd party, in organizing and arranging shipments. They will help you with communication between you and your manufacturers. Please ask for references and then call them! You will start with asking questions about US Customs/import process, logistical acronyms, transportation process and expectations. Don’t hesitate to ask them anything you don’t understand. Logistics is typically new to all of us starting this process! Then you will want estimated container costs, duty fees, entry bonds (ask about continuous bond) and any additional fees that may apply. Duty is calculated as a percentage of the commercial value (Cost) of the goods being imported and the cost of transportation (Freight). This is called CIF value. If you pay $15,000 for the product and freight costs $3,000 you would pay duty on $18,000. In this process if you do not have a warehouse lined up, please work with your Freight Forwarder on this. One line of caution if you are using multiple manufacturers—Sales Tax of 17% may apply if you are shipping from one mfg. location to another. Please ask these questions at the beginning so you don’t run into problems at the end. There are alternatives so please ask your Forwarders.

Another thing to keep in mind with logistics is you will need to assign item numbers or a sku for your products to help identify the items once they make it to warehousing. Keep great records of the numbers you assign to your products to prevent confusion later on. You will need to know how the product/s will be shipped in the container. Will they need palletized, packaged, etc? You will need a Bill of Lading and signed Custom Power Of Attorney(make sure you fill out EVERYTHING). One more thing I will add, make sure your manufacturers take pictures of your final product in their shipping packages or pallets. Make sure they are protected for the ride to their final destination may be a rough one.

The best advice I can give when dealing with logistics and your Freight Forwarder is to educate yourself, stay confident and be persistent! The next Chaheati Journey Blog will discuss the beginning of the Sales and Marketing phase.
